Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte

Wuthering Heights I haven't read the whole book, but am halfway there. This book attracted me due to the author being a Bronte. Emily, Anne and Charlotte Bronte are considered to be among the great writers, and their books are classics. Each wrote a book, which later became a highly analyzed and loved classic. This book, by Emily Bronte, is rather strange. Having read the author's note page, I wholly agree with it. This book contains a certain something that is somewhat peculiar for people like us who live in plains. The strains of the weather and the life and cultures, the crude language used and the raw emotions in the book required some time for me to digest it. I am reading it in a mania of reading all classics that has possessed me, and want to understand what the author wants to convey through this book. Heathcliff, the male character, is very complex. The desire for revenge and inhumanity, along with love confuse me. But deep in me is a part that sympathises. Cat

Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen

Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen Various spin-offs like Pride, prejudice and zombies also exist, nevertheless.... A classic. A good book for rookies and amateurs of English literature. It offers a good perspective to the timeline of England. But more importantly, the seemed protagonist (it is hard to pinpoint one in classics, for me) is a character who matches with me. Elizabeth Bennet, one of 5 sisters, who are daughters of, guess who, Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, is a girl who detests gossips and works in a straightforward manner. She likes to wear her feelings on the sleeve and do justice to all. She falls for a proud man, a Mr. Darcy, and they journey to overcome their negs (i.e. minus points in life) (Elizabeth's Prejudice and Mr. Darcy's Pride) and be happy. The plot is peppered with Jane Bennet and her instant click with Mr. Bingley and vice versa, and a misunderstanding (many, if we consider the whole book). Also featured are the 3 other sisters, their personalities

The Honest Truth (Dan Gemeinhart)

This book won my heart! The way the author described the plight of the protagonist and his strong will to do something he promised is surely going to bring tears to your eyes (and unrest to your mind if you don't complete it). Let me get straight to the plot. There's a boy, Mark, and his dog, Beau. Mark's best friend is Jessie. Mark suffers from cancer, which he was diagnosed with at the age of 5. Now, he sets out with Beau to climb a mountain, a task which he promised he would accomplish to his adventurous grandfather before he (grandfather) died. He does this without informing his parents but leaving a secret letter behind for Jessie. But why didn't he stay at home? Why didn't he savour the special care being taken of him? Why chose a perilous path to imminent death? And why did it have to be him, a 12-year-old boy? Find these answers in the book and read about the dangerous journey and near-death encounters of Mark and Beau in The Honest Truth.

Little Women (Louisa May Alcott) Character intro.

Image
This book is extremely heartwarming, reciting the tale of four sisters, Beth (Elizabeth) March, Jo (Josephine) March, Amy March and Meg (Margaret) March, Mrs. March (their mother), Mr. March (their father) and their societies (Mr. Laurence, Laurie, etc.). "Little Women" revolves around the lives of these four girls and their mother along with their neighbors Mr. Laurence, an old gentleman, and his grandson, Laurie, who marries Amy March in the future. Beth is a quiet girl, always doing household chores, helping their mother, playing and caring for her dolls, her pet bird, and playing piano whenever she got time. She had a sweet voice. Quite on the contrary, Jo was a tomboyish girl by spirit, though in her later years she became very  solemn. She was a revolutionary writer and often got her Shakespeare-like stories published in newspapers. But in her later years, her friend, Mr Bhaer made her realize not to delve too much in such criminal and tragic plot possessing stories.

The Dragon Keeper (Carole Wilkinson) Book Report

Image
This series is a very exciting, adventurous and yet solemn example of ancient Chinese beliefs and cultures related to dragon lore. The first book recites the adventures and the journey of a slave girl, Ping, with an imperial dragon, Long Danzi. The dragon makes Ping realize her potential and her actual rank as a Dragon Keeper, the only one left to care for the only left dragon. She carried with her Long Danzi's precious stone that required quite a few weird precautions. With a vicious dragon hunter forever in pursuit, a meeting and betrayal to the Emperor Lui Che, and a near-death encounter with a necromancer, Ping finally manages to travel with Danzi to a mysterious place called Ocean, which she is explained by Danzi, as the Isle of Blest, which in reality was far away from Ocean. Danzi leaves her with the new-born dragon that hatched from the stone, Kai Duan, and takes with him Ping's dearest companion and pet, Hua, a rat, to the Isle of Blest. It is revealed in Book 2 wh
